When crafting content of any kind, content developers need to not only impart vital information to their site visitors, it’s also important to get them to do something that can enrich their experience on the site, and to move the brand’s campaign forward. Whether it’s delivered via content on the brand’s sites, or imbedded on their social media profiles, content developers need to use call-to-action prompts to supplement the content and boost engagements. Today, we’ll talk about using call-to-action prompts within your content.

A call-to-action prompt is a request or a simple suggestion you ask of the site visitor that gives them a choice on what to do next. It can come in different forms, and they are usually appended at the end of the content. These include the “Visit our Web site to learn more about…”, “Click here to receive the latest news…”, and the “Join us on Facebook…” you’d find on articles, e-mail messages, blog posts, videos and podcasts.

Consider this: the site visitor, in his search for information, has invested time to read through your content. After consuming your content, they pretty much would also be looking for further details on what you just imparted. An effective call-to-action tells them where to find it and how to get there. As such, it can direct them to do the following, among many other actions:

  • Read supplementary write-ups, or download research materials about specific topics
  • Watch related multimedia content like videos, podcasts
  • Leave a comment, or leave them a personal message
  • Visit a Web site, blog, or even a physical location (like your office, or a venue where you’re holding an event, for instance)
  • Subscribe to your Web site, RSS, or newsletter
  • Join your contest
  • Share your content to their friends on the social networks or via e-mail
  • Find, add and/or Like the brand on the social networks

By persuading the site visitors to do these, an effective call-to-action prompt can enrich their learning experience, or provide unique opportunities they can avail of. Meanwhile, this also can help a Web site thrive in the search engine optimizations arena by boosting site traffic, helping grow and nurture a following, and improve brand reputation and trust.
